For a short period in the 11th century the castle at Vysehrad, just out of the city center, represented a genuine challenge to its more famous rival down the river as the dominant stronghold in the region.  Its rulers eventually decamped to Prague Castle and the rest, as they say, is history. Today Vysehrad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, represents a very pleasant excursion out of the city center.  

Built on a cliff above the Vltava Vysehrad provides beautiful views of the river and Prague in the distance. On this tour we will show you around all the sights in the complex including the Rotunda of St Martin, the Leopold Gate, the castle casements and the Church of St Peter and Paul with its famous cemetery, the last resting place of many notable figures in Czech history including the composers Dvorak and Smetana. During the visit to the castle casements you will get to see some of the stunning hidden statues that originally stood on the Charles Bridge.
